The third edition of the legendary race between Grignetta and Grignone is sold out, with 410 competitors at the start (+110 compared to the maximum limit of 300) out of over 600 requests. After careful consideration of the CVs, the Pasturo team has officially announced the starting list, which will see athletes from 30 different countries at the starting line. They will be joined by around forty elite athletes from the world circuit and some of the best Italian performers in the sport. New for 2025 is the inclusion of a trail race open to less trained athletes and newcomers to the sport, covering 14 km and 1,000 m of elevation gain; a much less demanding race, but no less beautiful.
But let's take it one step at a time. As scheduled, the Davide Invernizzi Memorial will take place on Saturday 20 April, with a possible recovery date the following day in case of bad weather. The start and finish location will be Pasturo, as always. From the heart of Valsassina, the heroes of this third edition will tackle 42 km and 3,600 m of elevation gain, passing through the 2,184 m of Grigna Meridionale and the 2,410 m of Grigna Settentrionale.
‘We are satisfied, there's no point denying it,’ said Team Pasturo president Alberto Zaccagni. "Given the numerous requests, we have increased the number of registrations from the 300 we had planned to 450. Once again, we will be a stage of the Merrell Skyrunner World Series, and it will be an honour for us to have some of the best athletes in the sport at our starting line. This circuit is an opportunity and an important showcase to promote Valsassina around the world. It is no coincidence that, thanks to the contribution of the Lombardy Region and the local Mountain Community, we are repairing all the high-altitude trails."
As for the new developments for 2025, here are the first important rumours: “From this year, our event will be even more inclusive,” continued Zaccagni. 'Knowing that the Grigne Skymarathon, given its technical nature, is not for everyone... in fact, I would say for very few people, we thought we would give a gift to those who love running in the mountains without having to deal with verticality and chains. Also on Saturday 20 September, half an hour after the start of the Grigne Skymarathon, a new 14 km trail with a 1000 m elevation gain will start, which will partly follow the first part of the route of our main event, before returning to Pasturo just in time to welcome and applaud the galacticos of the world series. The new race will be open to 200 competitors and registration will open on 1 July.
Once again this year, the event will be staged thanks to the contribution of the Lombardy Region and various local authorities. It will be sponsored by Scott Sport Italia, supported by DF Sport Specialist, and will be part of Italia dei Giochi, the project with which Milano Cortina 2026, in collaboration with CONI and CIP, aims to celebrate the arrival of the 2026 Italian Olympics and Paralympics.
